12 MONTH FOLLOW-UP OF A PILOT STUDY OF JOINT CRISIS PLANS FOR RESIDENTS OF NY/NY SUPPORTED HOUSING

Developed by the consumer with his or her mental health service providers, the Joint Crisis Plan (JCP) is a type of advance psychiatric statement which contains the consumer's choice of information, which can include an advance agreement for treatment preferences, for any future emergency. Previous studies of the JCP have shown positive outcomes but these studies have been limited to clinic settings. We believe that the JCP has the potential to increase housing retention for residents with serious mental illness and histories of homelessness who are at risk of losing housing due to psychiatric crisis. Our aims are:

  1. to test the feasibility of the JCP in the supported housing setting;
  2. to develop a framework to understand how the JCP may influence housing retention; and
  3. to collect preliminary data to inform a future grant application for the further development of the JCP intervention in the housing setting.
